Overtone, “discovered” by Clint and Dina Eastwood in Cape Town, South Africa, is quickly becoming one of the hottest vocal/pop bands in the USA! Their vocal abilities are like no other. Overtone has toured the American west with multi-platinum Grammy winner, Corinne Bailey Rae and played the prestigious SxSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Overtone has appeared on The Ellen De Generes Show, The George Lopez Show, The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, been featured in US Weekly, Billboard Magazine, and on Delta Airlines’ in-flight program, just to name a sampling. Overtone has opened twice for multi-platinum artists OneRepublic and played private performances for the legendary Tony Bennett and Academy Award Winner Charlize Theron. Another highlight- performing our National Anthem at the San Jose Sharks NHL play-off game for 40,000 people. Back in the studio now, Overtone will soon release a follow-up to Clint Eastwood’s Invictus Soundtrack; a CD of all original pop/dance music.
This amazingly talented group of singers/musicians started as a “University serenade group” in their native Johannesburg, South Africa in 2006. Success quickly followed with bookings at corporate events, music festivals and a month-long tribute show to the rock legends, Queen. Overtone was seen by actor/director Clint Eastwood in 2009, and was asked to perform the majority of the soundtrack for his film, “Invictus”, which stayed on the iTunes Soundtrack Top 25, peaking in the top ten, for four weeks.

Overtone band members range from 21-27 years old. They sing in English, Afrikaans and Zulu. Although they started as an a cappella band, the guys also play bass, guitar, drums and piano and write and record their own original compositions. Their repertoire includes close to 100 songs, ranging from traditional Zulu and Afrikaans folk to American pop music. Overtone has great audience rapport, appeals to all ages, and is also highly skilled at choreographed dance.
Overtone was nominated for two of South Africa’s most prestigious music awards, (Vonk Awards), including Best Newcomers and Best Group of the Year for 2009. Currently, they are recording the follow-up to debut CD “Frequency”, and the Invictus soundtrack, featuring all original compositions. Their music is contemporary pop, and is performed with or without instruments.

Eastwood Connection:
When does a housewife become a band manager? When her husband, Clint, shoots a movie in South Africa, and, during ladies’ night out, she experiences the best vocal band, ever.
My name is Dina Eastwood. In March, 2009, Overtone blew me away with their voices, harmonics, looks, and stage presence during a chance outing at a ‘Queen’ tribute show in Cape Town, South Africa. Compelled, I scheduled the band for a private performance for the cast and crew of Clint’s movie, “Invictus”, starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Nearly every member of our team showed up, and our love of Overtone was born. Soon after, Clint asked Overtone to cut a demo song for the movie. One song became two, two became three, and three became eight on the Invictus soundtrack.
A trained a cappella group, Overtone also performs with instruments and can sing in four languages; English, Zulu, Afrikaans and a little Hindi. Their audiences range from screaming teenaged girls to their parents who love real, authentic music. They literally appeal to all who hear them.
Overtone’s talent, looks and stage presence are so hot, they were quickly booked for several national shows in the United States, toured with Corinne Bailey Rae, and are in studio recording their next CD.
Believing strongly in Overtone, I became their manager, as well as “surrogate mom”, spending hours a day on emails and calls, and doing their laundry and cooking for them when they are in the US. I’m sure they’ll outgrow me, soon. Until then, I hope you’ll enjoy their work as much as I do.
